4th UpStream: Race Results

Having rained heavily the day before, Saturday, 25th January, 2014 turned out to be a beautiful day for our 4th UpStream: Haulover Bridge to Boom part sponsored by RF&G Insurance. Twelve teams in seven categories lined up under the Haulover Bridge and took off at around 9:15am when the horn sounded.

The race was slow given the high river conditions with strong current in which the teams had to paddle against. The maximum speed reached was 5mph taking off GPS readings from onboard the Joseph & Taylor STEELers’ canoe.

Spanish Lookout Race Results 2014

The second bi-annual Canoe Challenge at the Spanish Lookout Commercial and Industrial Expo was held on Saturday, March 01, 2014.  The race started at around 11am with five teams participating. Many of the usual teams decided they would conserve their energy for the big race which is only a few days away.  To make the race interesting the race coordinator and the association decided to change from race by categories, to having one race and by doing so changed the prize configuration.

7th Annual Boom to Manatee Lookout Race Result - 2014

The 2014 paddling season kicked off with the 7th Annual Boom to Manatee Lookout Race, sponsored by Bear Mountain Boats, Architectural Accents, Belize Global Travel Services, and Joseph and Taylor. The race was held on Saturday, 11th January, 2014.

The race got start at little after 10am. The river was high so teams time to complete the course was one of the fastest ever with the first place team NICH, Oscar Cordon, Efrian and Felix Cruz, completing the race in 1:14. Second place in the male category went to team BTL Cobb’s Arm, Roy Cano, Erick Cano, and Andres Cabb. The Belize Bank Bulldogs Armin Lopez, Amado and Daniel Cruz, finished third. D & A Construction slipped into the fourth spot with Leon and Ray Gillett and Jeremy Sanchez paddling for their team. Hener and Ervin Cruz along with Jerry Cante brought their Westrac team into fifth place finishing just ahead of the Joseph and Taylor team made up of Francis Codd, Jerry Rhaburn and Chris Guydis, in the seventh position overall. Rounding up the male category was Watt A Ting from Sea Sports Belize made up of John Searle, Robert Bailey and Tyreek Thompson.

SMART River Challenge @ NATS Race Results 2014

Saturday, May 3rd, 2014 was a nice cloudy day for the SMART River Challenge @ National Agriculture and Trade Show. This year’s race had thirteen entries in seven categories. The uniqueness about this race is that all paddlers had to stand outside their canoe and at the sound of the start they jumped in their sitting position and paddle off.

Completing the race in 2:06:00 was Westrac Stingers – Jerry Cante, Allen Cruz, Hener Cruz – to take first place in the Male Category. Only seven seconds behind was Jerry Rhaburn, Wilberto Daniels and Chris Guydis of the Ziprider / Guydis Canoes team sponsored by Cruise Solutions and Guydis Canoes to take second overall position. Finishing in fourth overall was the Belize Bank Bulldogs – Amado Cruz and Armin Lopez rounding up the Male Category.

2014 Boom to the City - powered by GUINNESS Results

This year’s Boom to the City Canoe Challenge - powered by GUINNESS, Henderson’s Bank to Riverside Tavern, on February 22, 2014, had a big turn out with 26 teams paddling for the pride. The Junior Division was won by Turd’z, Martin Gideon, Sergio Barrera and Glenford Sutherland, sponsored by Martin Woods. In second place was Unruley Wave sponsored by Belize Rural High School with Jeffery Seguro, Ashton Moody and Mathew Mask. The third place team was AFM with paddlers Mark Menez, Alexander Cruz and Feliz Neal.

Canoe Registration

The Coast Guard will be assisting BCAnoe with canoe registration and life jackets / PFD inspection. This is to ensure that your life jackets and / or PFDs are serviceable. This will be done at the time of registration of your canoe. Only inspected life jackets and/or PFD that have been tagged will be able to be worn during our events.
